Medical marijuana is taking Oklahoma by a very chill, very laidback storm. With new dispensaries opening across the state and manufacturers eagerly filling shelves with marijuana edibles, it seems like high time to start reviewing products to help patients find the best medicine for their needs. What is an edible? This is a question I wrestled with when I heard about Flower of Life’s 50 mg Headrush capsules.
Are you eating them? Yes. There’s no chewing, of course. Just swallowing. But this isn’t “The Jetsons.” I’m not getting hungry and saying, “Ooh, you know what sounds good? A pill.”
Pills are not brownies or cookies or gummies or whatever. But they are a good delivery system for medicine, and this is medicine.
So...I’m not about to do taste tests on various brands of aspirin, but I am going to review these pills, because they’re pretty great.
Lol. C’mon. Quit kidding around. These are pills. They taste like whatever you’re drinking them with, so mine had a distinct flavor of tap water.
One thing I will say is that these are not the biggest pills I’ve ever swallowed, but they are not small. Just a consideration for any of you with particularly small throats.
Flower of Life’s claim to fame is that they do all-organic weed with no pesticides, which means you’re getting clean marijuana—fairly important when you’re straight up ingesting it.
I first noticed the effects taking hold at a little past an hour in and it was a potent hit of euphoria with a lovely, head-gripping buzz.
It starts off slow, but at 50 mg, it comes on hard and doesn’t quit. It definitely lives up to its name and the feeling is a bit disorienting and a little jittery. Some strains are great for focus. This is not one of them.
This is a feeling high. Movement feels great. That body tingle just carries on down your shoulders and into the tips of your toes while the head high comes in hot and stays there.
Sativas, more than indicas, are associated with paranoia and I think this rings true for Head Rush, because I felt my mind racing without much control, which tends to lead to some scary thoughts, which opens up a real can of paranoia.
The key was talking to people. There’s a social aspect to this strain that is both calming and quite a bit of fun. If you’re turning to marijuana to relieve social anxiety, but you need a pretty powerful dose, this might be just right for you.
My hope is that Flower of Life continues making different varieties of pills and maybe focuses in on an indica with some sleepy qualities to it. Even at half or less the dose, I think edible marijuana pills that help patients relax and sleep would be a huge seller.
Reading: That’s a negatory, Ghost Rider. Words started jumping all over the place and it was increasingly difficult as the high took hold to keep my attention on the page.
Writing: Also a no-go. I was actually in the middle of writing when I started feeling this and things went off the rails soon after.
TV: It was fine watching a movie while riding the Head Rush wave, but I would stay away from anything too complex or with subtitles, because you’ll likely get a bit lost and a lot frustrated.
Video games: I tried. I really tried. But at some point, it got too distracting and I had to do a save on my character way earlier than I was planning because I just couldn’t keep up.
Talking: Yes. Yes this a lot. While receiving information from a show or a book was hard, sharing information through conversation, both online and in person, was a breeze and kept my brain from heading into unwelcome places.
Relaxing: No and then yes. Here’s the scoop. It’s a pretty active feeling. I could definitely see cleaning the house or doing dishes while riding this wave, but it’s also such an intense buzz that it tired me out quickly and I ended up taking a nap. It wasn’t a sleepy buzz, but I expended a lot of energy and needed a nap.
Flower of Life’s organic cannabis is no joke, which is why I think you’ll see a lot more bud from them in stores soon. The Head Rush 50 mg capsules are potent—probably too potent for beginners—with a strong sativa high that comes on fast and doesn’t let go. If you’re looking for a good movement edible, whether that means dancing with friends, exercising, or cleaning the house, this might be just what the doctor ordered. And especially if you’re also dealing with social anxiety issues with some minor pain management.
That said, it’s not a very chill experience, so if you’re looking for that relaxing stony high, it’s not here.
That’s kind of the magic of marijuana, though—different strains affect different people in a variety of ways. Weed is not a one-size-fits-all drug and that’s great. Flower of Life’s Head Rush 50 mg capsules are potent and effective, so long as those are the effects you’re looking for.
