With the passage of Oklahoma State Question 788, for the first time ever in Oklahoma, people are using marijuana. In conjunction with our sponsors at Bloom Healthcare, I Ate Oklahoma is reviewing edible marijuana products available in the state for a recurring feature we’re calling #WeedEater. Owly 50mg Cotton Candy
Smoking isn’t for everyone. Honestly, if the last 20-plus years of anti-smoking messages hadn’t impacted Americans’ willingness to literally breathe the exhaust from plants on fire into our lungs, I’d say there was something seriously wrong with us.
Thank goodness for edibles. While there’s a lot to love about the classic marijuana brownie, it’s refreshing to head to our local dispensaries and see a real variety of products. This week we’re testing out cotton candy from Owly--a brand I haven’t had much luck learning about.
Though their presence online is minimal, Owly products do shine through in their packaging and, as this test shows, their effectiveness.
Cotton candy is not a normal part of my diet, so it was a bit of a thrill to get to munch down on a pile of light green fluff. The spun sugar melts on the tongue instantly and you’re hit with a sweet, slightly grainy crunch as you eat.
While sugar takes center stage, the marijuana adds a light herbaceousness that is actually kind of pleasant. This isn’t a medicinal taste. If anything, it seems like some kind of fancy restaurant’s pastry chef decided to combine a pile of fresh garden herbs in an unlikely dessert.
The THC kicked in at a little more than an hour and built slowly into a very relaxing buzzy high. It was as if a cloud of white noise gently settled on my shoulders and, as white noise often does, it made me feel relaxed and a bit drowsy.
Dry mouth was an issue, which is pretty much par for the course, but with plenty of water on hand, you’ll be able to concentrate on the finer points of the experience: a pleasant light-headedness and tingly body feel.
Reading: Not impossible, but you’ll likely need to re-read a few paragraphs, especially once your eyes start getting cloudy.
Writing: Better than reading, if only because it’s about creating information instead of receiving it. Now, reading the notes later was a little more challenging, but...
Watching TV: This is a nice product for enjoying a sports movie-era Will Ferrell film. But avoid shows with subtitles.
Playing video games: You know, a racing game on easy works well here. MarioKart is a better choice than, say, solitaire.
Talking: There’s some nice bouncy energy here, due in part to the tingly body sensations, and that works well for socializing. But be aware that you might space on a few topics mid-sentence.
Relaxing: Perfect. Whether it’s pain relief or insomnia, this cotton candy is great for lowering anxiety and promoting rest and relaxation.
Overall, the Owly Cotton Candy with 50mg of THC was surprisingly tasty and provided a very pleasant, slow-building sensation that hits euphoric peaks. The way the sugar tempers the flavor of the THC makes for a dessert grownups will love with effects they will really, really love. Great for treating stress, insomnia, anxiety and pain.
