Medical marijuana is taking Oklahoma by a very chill, very laidback storm. With new dispensaries opening across the state and manufacturers eagerly filling shelves with marijuana edibles, it seems like high time to start reviewing products to help patients find the best medicine for their needs. I’m as surprised as you are that it’s taken #WeedEater this long to hit a Rice Krispie-style treat, but here we are. Trailing only brownies and gummies, cereal bar treats are one of the best-known forms of marijuana edibles and there are plenty of local producers making their own versions.
1 Luv Extracts makes a Fruity Pebbles treat with a whopping 200 mg of THC. This one is available at Get Bak’d in Edmond.
What you don’t remember about Fruity Pebbles is how powerfully the flavor comes through. It’s a faux-fruity taste that will instantly transport anyone back to Saturday mornings, a mixing bowl filled with sugary cereal and 30-minute-long “shows” that were just peddling cheap plastic action figures.
The assertive taste of the cereal covers the bulk of the marijuana flavor, which has just a mild hint of skunkiness. The texture is wonderful, as well--crisp cereal and a just enough marshmallow to hold it together without being rock hard.
200 mg of THC is so very much, but what’s great about this form factor is, with a little math and a handy dandy digital kitchen scale, you can create several nights worth of treats. And, yes, this is a nighttime treat, as you’ll soon read.
After about an hour and a half, I noticed all the tension was gone from my shoulders. My brain felt light, but my head quickly felt heavy. This is a pre-bed edible for sure. At two hours, I was ready to nod off, which made doing the rest of this review very difficult.
Reading: Not great. A lot of returning to the same sentence and drifting off into daydreams that took the story in wild places.
Writing: Maybe a little better, but not my best work.
Video games: Games of concentration are a waste here. Plus my eyelids kept getting in the way of the screen.
TV: Rewatching an old favorite? Perfect. Watching something with subtitles? Get used to being lost.
Talking: Just fine, actually. Not necessarily the activity you most want to be doing, but talking after it kicks in is pleasant, so long as you have some water around for the inevitable dry mouth.
Relaxing: This is where you want to be: Lounging with the option to straight-up nap. It’s not a disorienting feeling at all, just a very restful, peaceful slowing down of the brain until you just let go and dissolve into sleep. So lovely.
1 Luv Treats certainly has my heart. The taste of the Fruity Pebbles treat was excellent. At 200 mg for $20, the price was perfect (especially for those with a lower tolerance who can spread it out over several nights) and the effects were spot on without leaving me feeling like I couldn’t move. This is as close as most grown adults will get to being gently rocked to sleep.
